watch my heart explode
03:12
|
|||
I've got an awful diet
That's what the doctor says
And I'm morbidly overweight
Pick out a pill, prescribe it
Cause I'll still feed my face
Without ever trying to change
I just got some terrible news
Doctor said it's time to change
Stay the same and I'll watch my heart explode
Do I take a pill or light the fuse?
Douse it in butter and fry it
Eat til I can't feel my legs
Can't let this food just go to waste
Pick a farm, I'll buy it
Just for a little taste
Wouldn't have it any other way
I just got some terrible news
Doctor said it's time to change
Stay the same and I'll watch my heart explode
Do I eat this kale or light the fuse?
Solo
I just got some terrible news
Doctor said it's time to change
Stay the same and I'll watch my heart explode
Watch me fail as I light the fuse.

there was a time

Cry, cry again
There was a time I had artist's hands
Baby smooth with ideas, dreams and plans
Now scarred and callous from life's demands
But there was a time I had artist's hands
These days they're just tools I'm using for the man
There was a time when I used to read
Science fiction, the bible, or fantasy
Manuals, anything you'd put in front of me
Yes, there was a time when I used to read
These days I just sit and stare at this little screen
Getting older and wiser and I've learned
stars keep getting brighter as they burn
There was a time when it didn't hurt
Doing the normal things that you do at work
My back, my knees my eyes are all inert
Yet there was a time when it didn't hurt
These days I'm hoping for time served
Getting older and wiser and I've learned
stars keep getting brighter as they burn
Getting older and wiser and I've learned
stars keep getting brighter as they burn
And I'm burning out

let's run away
02:47
|

I know that work has got you down
You know I hate to see you frown
These days are creepin by so slow
Our little hearts just want to go
Let's run away and see a beautiful place
Exchange the scenery and change the pace
Our home is a refreshing place
But sometimes you need a taste
These hikes don't cut it anymore
We need mountain sea or shore
Let's run away and see a beautiful place
Change the scenery and change the pace
Let's run away and see a beautiful place
Make some memories and maybe stay
Let's run away and see a beautiful place
Change the scenery and change the pace
Let's run away and see a beautiful place
Make some memories and maybe stay
Let's run away
Let's run away
Let's run away

local anesthetic

Been trying to take my wisdom teeth since I was sixteen years old
Never bothered me too much, so I always postponed
Eventually on the lower left, sideways they had grown
I finally gave up the fight at the age of forty one
Yeah, that's 25 years
All I asked for was local anesthetic
My eyes were wide open when they did it
I didn't feel it, but I felt it
It was $140 and I don't regret it
Dentist popped the needle in and gave me half an hour
Came back with the assistant and they jumped into my mouth
They pushed and pulled and prodded things, almost broke a tooth in half
eventually they got a hold and pulled that sucker out
They even let me take a picture of it
All I asked for was local anesthetic
My eyes were wide open when they did it
I didn't feel it, but I felt it
It was $140 and I don't regret it
I sent the picture to my whole family and it was a laugh
To me exclusively, because I am quite the ass
No trigger warning, just some giant teeth, a bloody mess
From a guy who saved a couple grand by foregoing laughing gas

Wanted to take you where the water is so clear
Wanted to celebrate school's final year
Hurricane season was a risk we tried to run
We're pointing northward and dressed for island sun
We're changing direction
We're going somewhere else
Oh Canada
This vacation sucks
Four suitcases with not a sleeve in sight
Fifties in the day and colder through the night
Fillers from Jersey crowding all the heated pools
The bars, the trivia, any and every room
We're changing direction
We're going somewhere else
Oh Canada
This vacation sucks
Ports have been shut down for the last two years
First to make a call since pandemic fears
Nothings open, construction everywhere
Give me my money and get me out of here
We're changing direction
We're going somewhere else
Oh Canada
This vacation sucks

one old man to another
03:07

My father asked me, to make a video
So I could show him how the sausage gets made
My father asked, because I do this
All this nonsense, it is how I play
It's just practice
Lots of practice
and then practice
and practice some more
Plucking strings in front of the TV.
Tapping tables and stomping the floor
One old man to another
It's time and patience
Practice and fun
One old man to another
You stack the pieces
Until you are done
For my father, here is a video
Of the process of recording a song
For my father, and whoever else
I hope this nonsense isn't too long
One old man to another
It's time and patience
Practice and fun
One old man to another
You stack the pieces
Until you are done
It's just practice
It's just practice
It's just practice
There's no magic
There's no magic
There's no magic
(Everyone has a different hobby)
(Everyone has a different hobby)
(Everyone has a different hobby)
(Everyone has a different hobby)
(Everyone has a different hobby)
(Everyone has a different hobby)
It's just practice
It's just practice
It's just practice
(It just takes a little time and effort)
(It just takes a little time and effort)
(It just takes a little time and effort)
(It just takes a little time and effort)
There's no magic
There's no magic
There's no magic
(Any idiot that you know can do this)
(Any idiot that you know can do this)
One old man to another
It's time and patience
Practice and fun
One old man to another
You stack the pieces
Until you are done
Start with a scratch track
Then the drums go
Then the bass
Rhythm section is first
Then the guitars
And whatever else
Save the vocals for last
Their the worst

erie and the ohio

In every town of ash and umber
What was made so long ago
The promise that brought them
Between Erie and the Ohio
Did they all thrive in vibrant color
Primary bouquets against the oak
Evergreen, spruce, and maple
Between Erie and the Ohio
I see all the fading colors
As the pigment slowly drains
Peeling bark among the leaves now
Losing ground to the gray
Finding shapes in whitewood aster
Goldenrod is in full glow
A backdrop of brunnera
Between Erie and the Ohio
Under a lilac tinted skyline
Marigold has begun to go
Lavender grey is leavin' on time
Between Erie and the Ohio
I love all the splendid colors
Burning off the end of the day
A delightful reminder
To hold against the gray
The light of evening and of morning
Illuminates these weathered roads
As we search for all the beauty
Between Erie and the Ohio

seems the same

Verse One
A march through Canaan
Some holy crusade
Manifest destiny
This all reads the same
The tip of the arrow
The end of the spear
Hands on the harrow
They all read the same
Vengeance or justice
Right, sovereign, or safe
Justifications, excuses
They all read the same
To me
Verse two
Battle cry of freedom
Throw off tyranny
Reject your oppression
It all sounds the same
Raise prayers to heaven
Calling out a name
Chosen and choosing
It all sounds the same
From hearts’ overflowing
The mouth will speak
We’re better not knowing
It all sounds the same
To me
Bridge
With a different face
In a thousand places
Always changing shape
And claiming stasis
Source of love and hate
But who could blame us
Rose by another name
Would be the same as
Verse three
Priestess from the temple
Curiosity and a jar
A tree and an apple
This all seems the same
A boat on the water
Some vengeful gods
People sent to slaughter
This all seems the same
The problem of evil
The problem of pain
A cause to our suffering
It all seems the same
To me

Gabe Schwartz Ohio
Witness the sight of a middle-aged man trying hard to not seem like he's trying hard and spiraling in shame because of it.
Drink in the self interest masquerading as self effacing in the midst of self serving self deprecation.
Gabe Schwartz is a nominal musician and songwriter. Possibly. He attempts these feats alone as testament to the great difficulty he has in interacting with others.
