about

I sang the chorus melody to myself in reference to my children's inability to locate their errant clothing to their respective rooms. It transformed from that to a lyric about the Sisyphean nature of work. My work anyway, which is as simple as the title suggests.

I began to record the idea in 4/4, but felt I wanted to change the time, and change it again, and again. I wanted a quick change in the chorus, as a minor challenge. This is a fairly standard verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/chorus structure in B flat major. Beginning in 5/4, then 4/4, with verses in 6/8, choruses in 4/4 with a measure of 5/4 in the middle, and a bridge in 5/4.

lyrics

It's four in the morning
Again
Not sure how I got here
Or if I'm awake
Built a tower of cookies
Build a castle of protein bars
Skyscraper of jerky
And maybe something else

It's been so long since this started
Not quite sure when it ends
I stack boxes on top of boxes
And then I do it again

I'm gone by 12:30
And i have the whole day
To do as I'd like to
Want to, forget
Someday robots will do this
Better than I ever could
Hopefully they'll wait
For me to retire

It's been so long since this started
Not quite sure when it ends
I stack boxes on top of boxes
And then I do it again
It's been so long since this started
Not quite sure when it ends
I stack boxes on top of boxes

Boxes on top of boxes
On top of boxes
On top of boxes
On top of boxes
On top of boxes
On top of boxes
On top of boxes
And then I do it again

It's been so long since this started
Not quite sure when it ends
I stack boxes on top of boxes
And then I do it again (x3)
And then I do it again (×1000)

about

Gabe Schwartz Ohio

Witness the sight of a middle-aged man trying hard to not seem like he's trying hard and spiraling in shame because of it. Drink in the self interest masquerading as self effacing in the midst of self serving self deprecation.
Gabe Schwartz is a nominal musician and songwriter. Possibly. He attempts these feats alone as testament to the great difficulty he has in interacting with others.
